The First Immigrants

By, Elizabeth Schulte

According to the Thanksgiving story that every school child is taught, when the Pilgrims came to what would be called America, they learned from the Indians how to grow crops and live off the land.
We're told that the "first immigrants" were welcomed with open arms by native-born people. No fences, no quotas, no guards.
And what did the Native Amerians get in return? The "first immigrants" tried to enslave the Indians, and when they couldn't, the immigrants drove Native Americans from their land and slaughtered them in one of the most awful genocides in history.
As the Shawnee leader Tecumseh told the Osages people in a speech calling for unity and resistance against the colonists around 1811-12: " When the white men first set foot on our shores, they were hungry; they had no places on which to spread their blankets or to kindle their fires. They were feeble; they could do nothing for themselves. Our fathers commiserated their distress, and shared freely with them whatever the Great Spirit had given to his red children...
"Brothers, the white people are like poisonous serpents: when chilled, they are feeble and harmless; but invigorate them with warmth, and they will sting their benefactors to death."

I wonder what the white man would have thought if the American Indians made their language the "national language" & forced them to learn it just like we currently are doing to the immigrants of today.
This post was written to make you truly think before going and joining the "anti-immigrant" bandwagon. It would be truly hypocritical of one to not look back at history and the first TRUE immigrants to this country.

Revolutionary Of The Week

Hugh Thompson ( 1943-2006)

Hugh Thompson Jr, born in 1943, had wanted to fly helicopters so bad that after serving 4 years in the Navy, he left his wife & 2 sons behind as he re-upped into the Army & trained as a helicopter pilot.

After training, Thompson was sent to Vietnam on December 27th, 1967. He quickly earned a reputation as "an exceptional pilot who took danger in his stride."

Michael Bilton & Kevin Sim wrote a book called " Four Hours at My Lai" in which they described Hugh Thompson as a "very moral man. He was absolutely strict about opening fire only on clearly defined targets."

On the morning of March 16th, 1968, Thompson's virtue would be put to the ultimate test. While flying his H-23 observation helicopter, 25 year old Thompson used green smoke to mark wounded people on the ground in & around My Lai. When he returned after he refueled, he found that the wounded he marked earlier were now dead. Lawrence Colburn, Thompson's gunner, couldn't even look at the gruesome sight.

After bringing his chopper to a standing hover, Thompson & his crew saw a young woman that they had previously marked with green smoke. As they watched, a U.S. soldier, wearing Captain's bars, "prodded her with his foot, then killed her."

Thompson did not know at that point that more than 500 Vietnamese had already been slaughtered by Lt. William Calley's Charlie Company. Thompson watched as U.S. troops chased Vietnamese civilians, & knew it had to be stopped.

Thompson bravely landed his helicopter between the charging GI's & the fleeing villagers. He ordered Colburn to turn his machine gun on the U.S. soldiers if they tried to shoot the unarmed men, women, & children villagers.

Thompson then jumped out of the helicopter into the combat zone & somehow coaxed the scared shitless unarmed civilians from a bunker they hid in. He evacuated them to safety on his helicopter, as he cried the whole way. He returned back to base, screaming his disgust.

Officially called an "incident", My Lai was widely accepted as an aberration. U.S. war crimes in Southeast Asia are too lengthy to detail, but in an area nearby to My Lai, called My Khe, another U.S. company killed close to 100 peasants. The village was flattened by fire & dynamite. A My Khe veteren later said, " What we were doing was being done all over." Another said, " We were out there having a good time. It was sort of like being in a shooting gallery."

But not Hugh Thompson. He risked so much that day to save innocent, unarmed villagers, & acted when seeing an injustice take place, regardless of the fact that it was his fellow Army guys. Thompson risked his job & his life.

Thompson was much later (1998) awarded with the Soldier's Medal, the highest U.S. military award for bravery when not confronting an enemy.

Colonel Oran Henderson, charged with covering up the My Lai killings said in 1971, "Every unit of brigade size has it's My Lai hidden someplace."

But not every unit had a Hugh Thompson. I wish there was a Hugh Thompson in Haditha, Iraq.

Thompson died of cancer at the age of 62 in January of this year.

"Hung Jury" For Anti-Minuteman Protester

A jury deadlocked 10-2 & 9-3 in favor of an anti-Minutman protester who was violently arrested by Garden Grove California police on the night of Wednesday, May 25th, 2005.
Kurt Isobe, 19, of Laguna Niguel, was one of 300 people who attended a protest against Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist, who was speaking at a meeting fo the California Coalition for Immigration Reform in Garden Grove.
During the 3 days of testimony, 2 police officers accussed Isobe of throwing 2 objects at police during the demonstration. They claimed they saw him throw a "golf ball sized" object & a "red soda can" toward a police skirmish line.
But a crime lab technician testified that no fingerprints could be found on any cans. And numerous witnesses, including some who accompanied Isobe to the demonstration, stated that they didn't witness him throw any objects at the police.
The jury "hung" on 3 charges of felony assault against a cop, & obstructing an officer in the performance of his duties. They found him "not guilty" on lesser charges of assualting a horse & wearing a mask in the commission of a crime.
A hearing will be scheduled later next month to determine if the Orange County District Attorney's office will retry the case against Isobe.
Looks like they have nothing on Kurt Isobe. Maybe they should turn their attention on the old bastard Minuteman supporter who earlier that same day mowed down counter-demonstrators injuring several people with his van! Although many witnesses saw Harold "Hal" Netkin floor his van into anti-Minuteman protesters, he was later released by police.

Quote Of The Day

" I decided to fight because if we're all going to die, it might as well be for something."--- Raul Hernandez, Zapatista

After 3 years of an unjust invasion & war in Iraq, thousands & thousands of civilian Iraqi lives lost, & the utter destruction of a country that has suffered enough already, the people of Iraq have little sympathy left for the U.S. invaders.
But now the final nail in the coffin has been hammered, the last straw drawn, & another drop of fuel has been added to the fire in the chests of every insurgent.
Haditha: Marines of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Regiment are under investigation for storming at least 3 homes in Haditha on November 19th, firing guns & grenades at unarmed civilians in their own homes, including children ages 1,3,4,5,10,& 14, a 76 year old amputee who used a wheelchair, & the elderly. 5 men, 4 college students returning home for the weekend, & their taxi driver were also killed.
All this in retaliation for a roadside bombing in the neighborhood earlier that killled one Marine.
Investigators have rejected 2 early versions of the events from Marines. First they said that the victims were either civilians killed by the roadside bomb (hard to do when the victims found had bullet wounds from the same type of weapons the Marines carried), then they said that the victims were insurgents they killed in fighting, & lastly they said that the residents were killed inadvertently in a running gun battle with insurgents.
Iraqi civilians are sick & tired of innocent deaths. " We are tired of this news. I dont want to hear about more killings.", said Ismael Abbas, a 37 year old mail courier.
Muhanned Jasim, a local merchant said, " We have a Haditha everyday. We have a Fallujah & Karbala everyday." He no longer has electricity to watch t.v. & hear about the news. The United States can put men on the moon, yet cannot restore simple electricity to Iraq. The United States military/goverment does not want Iraqi's to hear the REAL news, & this is a prime example .
Jasim adds, " We live in darkness. What's the big news about Iraqi's getting killed? We're powerless to change the situation."
Ghasan Jayih, an Iraqi pharmacist said, " Were they the first...Iraqi's to be killed for no reason? We're used to being killed. It's normal now to hear 25 Iraqi's are killed in one day."
It's not normal, though. Innocent civilians, including women & children, should never be used as pawns in retaliation for one fallen Marine, even thousands.
How many more Haditha's will be uncovered? How many more Abu Ghriab's? Because unfortunately, I'm sure there's more.
Here is a link to a video of a little Iraqi girl who actually survived the Haditha massacre. Her family was killed before her very eyes. All unarmed, all caught by surprise.

Tell me, now is she "Liberated"???

Russia's Gay Pride Parade Ends Ugly

Riot police broke up an attempt by gays & lesbians to stage Moscow's 1st gay pride parade today.
Gay activists who attempted to lay flowers near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier outside the Kremlin wall were heckled & assaulted by skinheads, Orthodox Christians, & radical nationalists.
Police arrested around 120 people, both supporters & opponents of the parade. Gay activists were dragged away by riot police when they began to speak to reporters, yet opponents of the parade were allowed to speak & chant, " Moscow is not Sodom!"
Volker Beck, a member of the German Parliament from the Green Party was struck in the face by skinheads outside the city hall.
The city had banned the gay pride parade on the grounds that it was contradictive to the values of most residents & therefore presented a threat of violence.
Homophobic Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said gay parades, " may be acceptable for some kind of progressive, in some sense, countries in the West, but it is absolutley unacceptable for Moscow, for Russia. As long as I am Mayor, we will not permit these parades to be conducted."
Police stood by as skinheads crowded around Beck & Scott Long of the U.S. based Human Rights Watch, who unfurled a rainbow flag. Long said, " The police were encouraging the skinheads. It was disturbing but not suprising. Luzhkov spent months encouraging violence by his homophobia."
This makes me so fucking sick! How can a mayor of a city, ANY city, promote this kind of violence? And the fact that Orthodox Christians were side by side with skinheads to violently beat back gays & lesbians for wanting to lay flowers on a tomb, is just the most hypocritical juxtaposition ever! This just goes to prove we still have a long way to go before the world becomes tolerant of gays/lesbians everywhere.

Things That Make You Go, Hmmmm...

At the U.S. Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California, the building reportedly used by Navy Seals called, "The Seals Lair" has a very obvious swastika shape to it.
The building lies between Tulagi Rd, & Bougainville Rd & is easily found using Google Earth.
The Naval base was being built between 1920-1970. All the street names around the building are WW2 themed. For example, one street over the name is " Guadalcanal". This may suggest the building was constructed after WW2.
Coincidence? Who knows. Just thought it very peculiar!

Save The South Central Farm!!

The South Central Farm, located here in Los Angeles, in the middle of an industrial area, is a 14 acre urban farm that feeds over 350 families.
The South Central Farmers have been unable to raise the $ 16.5 million needed to save the farm from owner Ralph Horowitz. The amount needed now is $ 10 million. Ralph Horowitz plans to evict the South Central Farmers & plans to tear down the farm & build warehouses, some say it will become another dreaded Wal-Mart.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has said that he has given up on trying to raise the additional $ 10 million needed to save this vital farm, yet on the same day the L.A. City Council was able to pull $ 800 million from their ass to renovate the stadium!
Community activists are calling for the developer to sell the land for the price he bought it for, $ 5 million, instead of the $ 16.5 million he is now asking for.
Celebrities including Darryl Hannah & Joan Baez are there calling for the Mayor's last minute efforts to save the farm.
In a city that is yearning for more green, I find it ridiculous that they are willing to let this farm that feeds so many & keeps kids off the streets, be torn down!
As you read this, the South Central Farmers are on lock-down & refuse to leave the farm. Police helicopters are circling ahead, & calls have been made to any & all who wish to help save the farm.
The members of the Autonomous Peoples Collective & the Eastside Cafe have released a statement in support of the South Central Farm:

" We, the members of the Autonomous Peoples Collective and the Eastside Cafe, as subscribers to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and the "Other Campaign" denounce the imminent eviction of over 300 families who currently work the 14 acres of land considered the largest urban farm in the U.S., located in South Central Los Angeles , California. We also denounce the lies of the Los Angeles Mayor, who during his campaign promised to help the urban farmers retain 14 years of hard work, a medicinal treasure, a biospheric haven also known as the Lung of South Central. We denounce the constant disrespect of the L.A. City Council, particularly Jan Perry, who has from the very start attempted to sabatoge and evict the farmers. Last but not least, we denounce the ongoing harassment by the police department aimed at terrorizing the farmers and making them quit the 14 acres they have cultivated for over 12 years, known to all as the South Central Farm (SCF).

Recently many farmers and supporters have reported what appeared to be police tactical maneuver in preparation to take over the farm. Such military drills have included the use of trains to block the west side entrance, ostensibly to keep supporters from reaching the farm, and the possible use of helicopters to raise the farm and evict its tenants.

On Friday, May 19th, between 9pm & 11pm, during a concert in support of the SCF, an unidentified helicopter flying at an extremely low altitude flashed its search light in an intimidating manner on the main entrance to the SCF on Long Beach Ave. This is a direct attack on the human right to autonomy and self-determination. As subscribers to La Otra Campana and the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, we equate this attack in Los Angeles to the attacks the Mexican campesinos have suffered when defending their land in Chiapas, Oaxaca, and recently, Atenco. La Otra Campana supports the struggle of the SCF.

Thus, as subscribers we denounce these illegitimate actions of Ralph Horowitz, the mayor and all other parties who have led to the illegitimate purchase and appropriation of the SCF. We denounce all the legal actions against the South Central Farmers and forcing an unjust eviction of over 300 families off the land that they have been working on for many years.

We denounce the L.A. City Council--especially Jan Perry--for its inability to support the farmers and come up with the funds to purchase the farm from Ralph Horowitz. They all promised to green L.A., but are unwilling to challenge big corporations interests on this contested piece of land.

We denounce the LA Sheriff & LAPD for conducting militarized police raid tactics on and around the SCF for the last several months. As we point out and have seen throughout La Otra Campana, neoliberalism requires buying up everything, in addition to the destruction and demonization of all collective efforts to save the land. It requires the squelching of all commons and the privatization of everything. Neoliberalism requires the use of military force to enforce the illegitimate and unnatural processes of this spurious system. And although we dont expect the type of violence carried out in Atenco against the campesinos who were defending their land, we do see a connection in the military force used to suppress the right of these people to work their land. After all, it was NYC Mayor Guiliani, William Brattens boss--, who was hired by Mexico City Mayor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, as a global consultant to train this city's police departments on the art of crushing urban protests, resistence movements, and peaceful rebellions. Plus, the US goverment has been pouring military aid to the Mexican goverments for the past 10 years with the excuse of the War on Drugs.

Thus, it is clear to see whose law and order is maintained by this low intensity warfare waged on the true owner of the land. In full agreement with La Sexta and La Otra we belive that when Emiliano Zapata verbalized his deep conviction of la tierra es de quien la trabaja, he wasnt just talking about Mexico.

Lastly, we denounce the Mayor of LA, Antonio Villaraigosa, who posses as a progressive. Villaraigosa and the rest of those in City Council who swear they are progressive are not. They have all shown us that our systems electoral process does not produce change. They have all shown us the degree to which this system is corrupt and with great ease they have lied to the people, particularly the poor. Antonio has shown us that there is no more listening to the people, that is--no more democracy.

As subscribers of La Sexta & La Lacandona and as members of La Otra Campana we understand and believe that it is through a broad and diverse movement of people at the bottom--utilizing civil and rebellious peaceful means--that a new system is possible--even in the belly of the beast."

Quote Of The Day

" Wall Street owns the country. It is no longer a goverment of the people, by the people, and for the people, but a goverment of Wall Street, by Wall Street, and for Wall Street. The great common people of this country are slaves, and monopoly is the master. Our laws are the output of a system which clothes rascals in robes, and honesty in rags."--- Mary Elizabeth Lease (1890)

Revolutionary Of The Week

The Lowell Mill Girls

Lowell, Massachusetts was named after the wealthy Lowell family. They owned numerous textile mills in the 1800's, which attracted the unmarried daughters of New England farmers.

These young girls worked in the mills & lived in supervised dorms. On average, a Lowell Mill girl worked for 3 years before leaving to marry. Living & working together often forged a camaraderie that would later find quite an outlet.

The mill owner's exploited what had the potential to be a relatively agreeable system for all involved, all for their own gain.

The young workers worked under poor conditions for long hours, only to return to the dorms that enforced strict dress codes, shitty food, & were ruled by matrons with an iron fist.

In response to this treatment, the Lowell Mill workers, some as young as just 11 years old, did something revolutionary, especially for that time: The tight-knit group of girls & women organized a union. They demonstrated & marched against a 15% cut in their wages, as well as for better working & living conditions. This included the demand for a 10 hour workday.

The women started newspapers, & proclaimed, "Union is power!" They decided to go on strike. The movement spread through other Massachusetts mill towns, & around 500 workers united to form the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association (LFLRA) in 1844. This was the first organization of American working women to bargain collectively for better conditions & higher pay.

Sarah Bagley was named the LFLRA's first president & she led a petition-drive that forced the Massachusetts legislature to investigate the conditions at the mills. Bagley not only fought to improve the physical conditions, but she argued that the female workers "lacked sufficient time to improve their minds", something she considered "essential for laborers in a republic."

As with many revolutionary actions, the LFLRA met with alot of opposition in their efforts. Despite their inability to fully secure the specific changes that they demanded, the Lowell Mill girls laid a foundation for female involvement & leadership in the soon to explode America labor movement, & they continue to inspire those who stand against injustice today.

Anti-Racist Protestors Outnumber Pathetic Turnout Of Minutemen

On Sunday, around 300-400 pro-immigrant & anti-racist protestors demonstrated against the estimated 100 members & supporters of the racist Minutemen Project in downtown Los Angeles.
The Minutemen called a "Civil Rights" march to began at Olympic & Broadway, which is the historic starting point of immigrant rights & anti-war protests.
As the Minuteasses started their "parade", guarded by dozens of riot police, anti-racist protestors swarmed around them on both sides of the street. Our chants drowned out the Minutemen's, & the many Latino shoppers & shopkeepers joined in the support against the Minutemen.
The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition prepared for the action by passing out thousands of flyers downtown in the days leading up to the protest.
Cliff Ollin wrote on his experiences in the Los Angeles Independent Media website:
" The laughable or pathetic part of the Minutemen "parade" was their tiny turnout: we counted 100-120 people. They had at least 3 weeks to mobilize their people, and only got that tiny number to show up. We had 300 thousand marching along the same route on May 1st."
" The Minutemen/SOS tried to make it a "parade" by having 3 cars go ahead of their pitiful contingent of marchers. They only occupied the middle of Broadway, and at most two-thirds of a block when you count the SUV, the van, and the convertible car with 2 seated ("guests of honor"?) fools in the back seat smiling as people hurled insults at them, which made it a cruel parody of the "tournament of roses grand marshall" car.
" Sunday shoppers along south Broadway mostly just stood there and watched the real aliens walk down the middle of Broadway. It is hard to over -emphasize the tiny turnout of SOS/Minutmen. Unlike progressive marches, where the entire stretch of Broadway from Olympic to First St. is closed off, the cops only had to close Broadway a block at a time as the "parade" crusied by.
" Once the Minutemen has made it to City Hall they crossed Spring, and walked over to the steps where many progressive rallies have been held. Only this time, about 60 police had formed a human barrier leading halfway up Spring and across the intersection of First and Spring to keep protestors away from City Hall lawn."
" The Minutemen appear to have rented about 6 Porta-san restrooms that were placed on the west side of Spring just north of First, across the street from City Hall lawn. We counter-protestors were crowded on that side of the street, on both sides of the Porta-sans, so the Minutemen/SOS would have had to crossed Spring, and walked through the line of about 50 cops, and then pushed through us to get to the restrooms. I bet they were royally pissed off )pun intended) at the Porta-san company. Speaking of "pissed", I and other counter-protestors used the Porta-sans, which were sparkling clean and odor free."
"About a half hour later about 8 Minutemen/SOS people left their minuscule "rally" on the City Hall steps and walked across the City Hall yard to Spring St. to use the restrooms. The 8 or so men and women SOS/Minutemen started to cross Spring to get to the porta-sans, which by then were surrounded by people vociferoulsly shouting "Racists go home!"
" The police and 2 of the Minutemen "security" people stopped the SOS/Minutemen and sent them back to the City Hall lawn. That small victory galvanized the crowd which screamed, "Go away! We dont want your shit!" loud enough for them to clearly hear and feel the resonance of this vicious taunt in their entrails and internal plumbing. Their brains heard the angry protestors at the same time that, a bit further down in their bodies, "nature" was calling them ever more insistently. We won the "batalla de los banos".
After the march reached City Hall, many Minutemen fled the area & the people declared victory over the racist "parade" in downtown L.A.
Protestors left with the feeling of accomplishment & unity against the right-wing criminals who are working with the Bush administration, other politicans, & Corporate Amercia in a coordinated attempt to stop the immigrant struggle for equality.

Jean Rohe: You Go Girl!

Jean Rohe, graduate of the New School University, is far from the "idiot" that Mark Salter, John McCain top aide, said in a response to Rohe's blog entry on The Huffington Post.
In her graduation speech, she spoke out against Senator John McCain's invitation to speak at New School University's graduation ceremony.
Rohe's speech included:
" Right now, I'm going to be who I am and digress from my previously prepared remarks. I am dissapointed that I have to abandon the things I had wanted to speak about, but I feel that it is absolutely necessary to acknowledge the fact that this ceremony has become something other than the celebratory gathering that it was intended to be due to all the media attention surrounding John McCain's presence here today, and the student and faculty outrage generated by his invitation to speak here. The Senator does not reflect the ideals upon which this university was founded. Not only this, but his invitation was a top-down decision that did not take into account the desires and interests of the student body on an occassion that is supposed to honor us above all, and to commemorate our achievements.
What is interesting and bizarre about this whole situation is that Senator McCain has stated that he will be giving the same speech at all three universities where he has been invited to speak recently, of which ours is the last; those being Jerry Falwell's Liberty University, Columbia University, and finally here at the New School. For this reason I have unusual foresight concerning the themes of his address today. Based on the speech he gave at the other institutions, McCain will tell us today that dissent and disagreement are our "civic and moral obligation" in times of crisis. I consider this a time of crisis and I feel obligated to speak. Senator McCain will also tell us about his cocky self-assurdness in his youth, which prevented him from hearing the ideas of others. In so doing, he will imply that those of us who are young are too naive to have valid opinions and open ears. I am young, and although I dont profess to possess the wisdom that time affords us, I do know that preemptive war is dangerous and wrong, that George Bush's agenda in Iraq is not worth the many lives lost. And I know that despite all the havoc that my country has wrought overseas in my name, Osama bin-Laden still has not been found, nor have those weapons of mass destruction.
Finally, Senator McCain will tell us that we, those of us who are Americans, "have nothing to fear from each other". I agree strongly with this, but I take it one step further. We have nothing to fear from anyone on this living planet. Fear is the greatest impediment to the achievement of peace. We have nothing to fear from people who are different from us, from people who live in other countries, even from the people who run our goverment--and this we should have learned from our educations here. We can speak truth to power, we can allow our humanity always to come before our nationality, we can refuse to let fear invade our lives and to goad us on to destroy the lives of others. These words I speak do not reflect the arrogance of a young, strong-headed woman, but belong to a line of great progressive thought, a history in which the founders of this institution play an important part. I speak today, even through my nervousness, out of a need to honor those voices that came before me, and I hope that we graduates can all strive to do the same."
This all coming moments before John McCain was to speak.
Many fellow New School graduate's carried signs denouncing the Bush administration & the Iraq invasion, & also wore armbands.
In response to Jean Rohe's blog entry on The Huffington Post, describing here reasons for her speech, an aide to McCain wrote, " Ms.Rohe and those of her fellow graduate's hailed their school's President as a war criminal and who greeted the Senator's reference to a friend's death with laughter proved only one thing, one sad thing, that they could learn a thing or two from the students of Liberty University."
" It took no courage to do what you did, Ms. Rohe. It was an act of vanity and nothing more."
" What, pray tell, have you risked? The only person you have succeeded in making look like an idiot is yourself."
" Should you grow up and ever get down to the hard business of making a living and finding a purpose for your lives beyond self-indulgance, some of you might then know a happiness far more sublime than the fleeting pleasure of living in an echo chamber. And if you are that fortunate, you might look back on the day of your graduation and your discourtesy to a good and honest man with a little shame and the certain knowledge that it very unlikely any of you will ever possess the one small fraction of the character of John Mc Cain."
Oh, gag! What an ass!
Jean Rohe, you should be proud of your speech & all it stood for; saying what so many of us felt.
Vanity had nothing to do with it. This brave, intelligent woman will have no problems "finding a purpose" or knowing "happiness".
And I highly doubt she will look back on her graduation with "shame" & the so-called knowledge that is "very unlikely" she or her fellow graduates will "ever possess the one small fraction of the character of John McCain."
Remember: Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

Quote Of The Day

" The civilized have created the wretched, quite coldly and deliberately, and do not intend to change the status quo; are responsible for their slaughter and enslavement; rain down bombs on defenseless children whenever and where they decide that their "vital interests" are menanced; and think nothing of torturing a man to death: These people are not to be taken seriously when they speak of the " sanctity" of human life, or the " conscience" of the civilized world."---James Baldwin (novelist/essay author)

"Boss, The Plane, The Plane"!!

Where the hell is it???

I've watched the footage over & over again to try & make out at least an OUTLINE of a passenger plane flying into the Pentagon, but to no avail!!
The footage that the Pentagon released of Flight 77 hitting the Pentagon building is the talk of the town.
There is definately an object , that appears white or light colored, flying extremely low into the Pentagon--but the speed at which it zooms by is amazing!
I'm hoping more footage is released in the near future so we can all figure it out.
If you are interested in more information about this topic, James over at ' The Psychotic Patriot sent me a link to an amazing site dedicated to this This site will have you saying "Hmmmmm"! Also, the great blog, 'Spark Of Freedom' has some interesting stuff on this as well.

Marcos Suspends 'Other Campaign' To Stand With Atenco

Since the arrest of members of the People's Front in the Defense of the Land (FPDT), (the one's who defended the flower vendors from being violently displaced by the police of Atenco/Texcoco to make way for a Wal-Mart), as well as members of other social organizations in solidarity with both groups, Subcomandante Marcos of the EZLN has suspended the 'Other Campaign'/'La Otra Campana' to stay & fight for the release of the 190 prisoners & demand justice for the brutal attacks by local & goverment police.
In a communique, the members of the campesino front demanded the immediate release of all the political prisoners of the FPDT, & demand that the PRI Governer, Enrique Pena Nieto, be arrested.
They also call for the dismissal of police commanders of Ecatepec, Chalco, Texcoco, & Chiconcuac--all involved in the violent aggression. In addition, they demand the imprisonment of the officers that attacked & raped the detained men & women.
Marcos said the Zapatista Other Campaign, " will continue with our protests & mobilizations in all of Mexico & the world until all the prisoners detained during the police raids in Texcoco & San Salvador Atenco on May 3rd & 4th are released."
After a long march from the Department of the Interior building to the mansion of Mexican President Vicente Fox, Marcos (Delegate Zero) of the EZLN warned, " those from above must release all the prisoners or immediately prepare the jails to throw us all in."
Marcos added that the participants of the 'Other Campaign' "will not leave our companeros & companeras alone. Not in jail, nor in their pain, nor in their struggle. No matter the time it takes, no matter the opprotunity that those above decide & impose. No matter if we are many or only a few. No matter if they attack us or praise us. No matter if they understand us & support us, or if they condemn us & persecute us."
"...let them start making spaces in the prisons, hospitals, & cemetaries because this is not going to be stopped until all the prisoners of the 3rd & 4th of May are released."
With great passion, Marcos said, " Today, like on other occasions, we are called together by suffering. The suffering of seeing our companeros of the FPDT & other organizations, groups, collectives, families, & individuals attacked by the police of the goverments of San Salvador Atenco."
He added that at the march, " we are brought together by the indignation & the anger that is provoked by knowing that, for those from above, women are the spoils of war promised beforehand to the troops in 'order'. The aggression that our companeras recieved & continue to recieve for the simple fact of being women. The desire not just to beat them & detain them, but also humiliate them, rape them & destroy them morally."
Later, his voice cracking, he said, " What women in Mexico, no matter her ideas, can honestly keep quiet? What youth, older person, child, man or woman, can know what it means to be one or the other in Atenco the 3rd & 4th of May & remain immobilized? Who can listen & not feel the same rage & indignation?--Not us, not us, not in the Other Campaign."
Marcos considered that all the rage, pain, & indignation caused by the repression in Atenco will be channeled into organization. " We have just begun; we won't be stopped."

Revolutionary Of The Week

Tommie Smith & John Carlos

This week, there are 2 revolutionaries, although they acted together.

They are, Tommie Smith & John Carlos. Both were United States Olympic sprinters who recieved medal's at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

Tommie Smith, born in 1944, was the son of a migrant worker. John Carlos, born in 1945, was from Harlem.

Smith & Carlos were teammates at San Jose State College & were amazing sprinters. They both were involved in a planned Olympic boycott by black athletes.

In the fall of 1967 amateur black athletes formed Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR) to organize this boycott of the 1968 Olympics. The OPHR founding statement read, in part:

" We must no longer allow this country to use a few so-called Negroes to point out to the world how much progress she has made in solving her racial problems when the oppression of Afro-Americans is greater than it ever was. We must no longer allow the sports world to pat itself on the back as a citadel of racial justice when the racial injustices of the sports world are infamously legendary...any black person who allows himself to be used in the above matters is a traitor because he allows racist whites the luxury of resting assured that those black people in the ghettos are there because that is where they want to be. So we ask why should we run in Mexico only to crawl back home?"

The OPHR also demanded the restoration of Muhammad Ali's heavyweight title (which was stripped from him due to his resistance to the military draft), the removal of white supremacist Avery Brundage as head of the US Olympic Committee, & the "disinviting" of 2 apartheid states, South Africa & Rhodesia.

The IOC made a gesture of conceding to the 3rd demand, but Carlos & Smith were far from satisfied.

So, on the second day of the Olympic games, when Smith set a world record in the 200 meters, & Carlos placed 3rd, they let the world know exactly how they felt.

When the medal ceremony started Smith & Carlos stood barefoot on the medal podium wearing beads around their necks which they said symbolized, " those individuals that were lynched, or killed that no one said a prayer for, that were hung tarred. It was for those thrown off the side of the boats in the Middle Passage."

As the American flag began it's ascent up the flagpole & the opening of the "Star Spangled Banner" played, Smith & Carlos stood barefoot with heads bowed & fists raised in a black power salute.

When the silver medalist, a runner from Australia, Peter Norman, saw what was happening, he ran into the stands to grab an OPHR patch off a supporter's chest to show his solidarity on the medal stand.

The fallout was both positive & negative. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) not only forced the US Olympic Committee to withdraw the 2 world class sprinters from the upcoming relays, but had them expelled from the US Olympic Team.

Carlos said, " We didn't come up there with any bombs. We were trying to wake the country up & wake the world up too."

Tommie Smith added, " It's not something I can lay on my shelf and forget about. My heart and soul are still on that team, & I still believe everything we were trying to fight for in 1968 has not been resolved & will be part of our future."

Dave Zirin calls Tommie Smith & John Carlos' actions, " arguably the most enduring image in sports history, the image has stood the test of time, the politics that led to that moment has been cast aside by capitalism's committment to political amnesia; it's political teeth extracted."

He added, " It was a watershed moment of resistance. But Carlos & Smith are not merely creatures of nostalgia. As we build resistance today to war, theirs is a living history we should celebrate."

The NSA : National Spying Agency

Today President Shrub insisted that the US does not listen in on domestic telephone conversations among ordinary Americans. Well, what about international calls? And what exactly is his definition of "ordinary Americans"?
Of course he declined to specifically discuss the goverments compiling of phone records, or whether it would amount to an invasion of privacy.--Clearly it is.
Tony Snowjob insisted that Bush's comments didn't amount to a confirmation of published reports that the NSA's surveillance was broader than initally acknowedged & that it included secretly collecting millions of phone call records.
Today, Verizon Communications denied it had recieved a request for customer phone records from the NSA. The statement came a day after Bell South Corp. also said the NSA never requested customer call data.
This all comes after a story in USA Today last Thursday said that Verizon, AT&T, & Bell South has complied with an NSA request for tens of millions of customer phone records after 9/11/01. The paper cited anonymous sources "with direct knowledge of the arrangement."
USA Today said in a follow up story that Bell South did not challenge the initial report when given details about it prior to publication.
San Antonio based AT&T has said, " we have an obligation to assist law enforcement and other goverment agencies responsible for protecting the public welfare."
Bell South, Verizon, & AT&T are facing a number of lawsuits by customers who allege violations of their privacy.
Quest Communications customers will be pleased to know that they were approached by the goverment, but Quest told them to screw off. Not in those exact words, of course! Hats off to Quest!!
Also, the FBI acknowledged that it is increasingly seeking reporters phone records in leak investigations.
An anonymous senior federal officer said, " It used to be very hard and complicated to do this, but it no longer is in the Bush administration."
The acknowledgement came after ABC News reporters had been warned by a federal source that the goverment knew who they were calling.
FBI officials did not deny that phone records of ABC News, the Washington Post, & the New York Times had been sought as part of an investigation of leaks at the CIA.
In a statement, the FBI press office said it's leak investigations begin with the examination of goverment phone records. Phone records will be sought if goverment records are not sufficient.
(As a side note: A Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for Thursday on Bush's nomination of Air Force General Michael Hayden to head the CIA. As the NSA Director from 1999-2005, Hayden oversaw the goverments warrantless surveillance program. Anyone see a pattern here??)
When people try & defend the goverment sponsored spying of American citizen's phone calls/records by claiming that it's to find "terrorists",etc, etc., I find that pretty hard to swallow. Reason: I am not a tool. I do not believe Bush's rhetoric about "protecting" me from al-Qaida. Especially when he says that they "don't listen to domestic phone calls without court approval". This administration is corrupt to the bone. They don't give a flying shit about "court approval". And I'm sure getting a "court approval" for Bush is extremely easy, whether it's legal & moral, or not. But most likely, it is not.

Response To The Fuhrer's Speech On Immigration

Showing fear of the power of the people that has exploded on the streets of America in the past 2 months, as well as being torn between his extreme right-wing & racist base, Bush felt compelled to appear on national t.v. to announce his version of immigration reform.
His plans show that militarism is not only his prefered method, but the goal of his administration when it deals with all issues, whether it be the Middle East or the worker's rights struggle here at home.
'The Decider' has called for as many as 6,000 National Guard troops to the US/Mexico border, to supposedly provide intel-gathering, surveillance, & other administrative support. Yet the National Guard troops will still be armed & authorized to use force if they deem necessary.
Democrat Ted Kulongoski of Oregon made a great point when he said that Guard soldiers signed up to fight the "war on terrorism", not to " go and sit on the border of Mexico".
The White House wouldn't say how much the deployments would cost (typical), but did say that it would be paid for as part of a $ 1.9 BILLION request from Congress to supplement border enforcements, set to begin deployments in early June.
Sen. Edward Kennedy said, " The National Guard already is stretched to the limit by repeated tours in Iraq & Afghanistan, as well as from providing disaster assistance in their own states."
In my opinion, sending National Guard troops to the Southern border shows that Bush is treating this area as a war zone where the military will be used against poor, starving people who are only crossing the border to survive, not to praise Allah by flying commercial planes into US buildings or acting out suicide bombing missions!
A precedent is being set here to use military force for domestic law, among other things. With this action & mindset, a police state is eminent.
Bush also called for construction of new high-tech fences, new roads & barriers, motion sensors, infrared cameras, & unmanned aerial vehicles. All of these, I'm sure, will lead to many, many more deaths of immigrants at the border.
I guess Bush's response to people fleeing starvation & hunger is to herd them into even more danger, where many will die, including women & children.
Another Bush idea will be to step up state police measures by training local law enforcement to apprehend & detain undocumented immigrants. This opens the door for the local police to go around demanding immigrants, or anyone who looks like one, to show their papers or this new I.D. Card he mentions, that will likely have biometric info such as fingerprints on it. You think police racial profiling is bad now?? Just wait until this goes into effect. Anyone who is a descendent from Mexico, Central America, or any Latin country will be harassed & discriminated against. Bush is handing racists excuses to harass & discriminate.
In addition, Bush is calling for a Guest Worker Program. Do not be fooled by this! The historical record of guest worker programs shows that the main beneficiaries are rich business owners, not immigrant workers. It is an attempt to make sure these immigrant workers never unionize or recieve benefits of any kind. They would work their asses off for pathetic wages & recieve no benefits, all to be kicked out of this country after a few years, regardless of whether or not they have built families &/or homes. This is EXPLOITATION! According to the goverment, they are good enough to scrub your floors, take care of your children, mow your lawns, but when that's done you tell them to get the fuck out??
As with every political program based on racism, this drive against immigrant workers is based on propaganda, & dehumanizing, stereotypical lies. These immigrants have been uprooted from their homelands by the process of corporate globalization & "Free Trade". This has led to massive unemployment, where millions of workers from Central America, Mexico, & elsewhere have migrated here & are forced to take employment in back-breaking, low-paying jobs that you know damn well no one else would do. So the theory that "they are taking away our jobs" is full of shit!!
Once here (if they live through the desert heat &/or suffocation from the backs of trucks) they work at poverty wages, live in fear of arrest, ICE raids & deportation, are viciously exploited by their bosses who know these workers can't unionize to demand or request protection & fair wages, pay taxes & have deductions taken from their paychecks yet are ineligible to collect any benefits, etc, etc.
Undocumented immigrants pay more than $ 7 billion into Social Security each year, but recieve no benefits from the program. They also pay more than $ 1.5 billion into Medicare each year even though they are ineligible for Medicare.
With the 1994 effect of NAFTA, the results have devastated worker's in both Mexico & the US.
1st, NAFTA prohibits the Mexican goverment from subsidizing agricultural production. Yet allows the US goverment to continue providing subsidies to US agriculture to billions of dollars a year. The result is that US producers are dumping into the Mexican market their subsidized products at prices with which the Mexican producers can't compete. With no jobs, in order to survive, Mexican farmers are left with no other choice: migrate to the US.
Here in the US, NAFTA has sent many good paying jobs to Mexico. Unlike their Mexican counterparts, American workers do not migrate, for obvious reasons.
Corporate America works long & hard to exploit the anger of the US worker to forment racist feelings & attitudes agaisnt undocumented workers & everything foreign, especially against non-European immigrants. This is done to weaken, divide, & maintain political control of the working class.
That is why the US goverment promotes the Bush Guest Worker Program, which amounts to indentured servitude for immigrants. In order to leverage this plan, the right-wing funds & promotes racist groups such as the Minutefucks.
Bush's immigration reform speech was another attempt to divert our attention elsewhere--while his job/popularity polls drop to pathetic percentages, anger over the Iraq invasion continues, indictment of Karl Rove looms, & the all around corruption in the White House continue to taint his presidency.
Bush is grasping at straws. And those straws are the right-wing, racists, & conservative whites that got him "elected" in the first place.

Need A Good Laugh??

Ran across this Youtube video today via another blog, & I just couldn't resist posting a link to it.
Try & count how many times she says, "like"! I especially love her melodramatic rant about the dead bird! Someone needs to slip her a Zoloft or something! Poor thing!
Check it out:
"Like birds are dying!!"

Mary Cheney Opens Her Mouth...Too Little, Too Late

Mary Cheney, dyke daughter to Darth Vader himself, Vice Prez Dick Cheney, has not only gone against fellow gays by becoming a Republican & never speaking out (till now) against the proposed ban on same-sex marriage--but now she has resulted in name calling & bad mouthing John Kerry & John Edwards.
Mary, Malfoy look-alike, called John Kerry a "son of a bitch", & his old running mate John Edwards a "total slime" for discussing her sexual orientation during the televised debates during the Presidential campaign.
Mary 'Turncoat' Cheney's new book has her describing the proposed ban on gay marriage as a "gross afront" to gay Americans, & she reveals she "almost" quit the Republican campaign after Bush endorsed the legislation.
She said while in the studio audience when Edwards mentioned her sexual orientation, she looked at him & mouthed the words, " Go fuck yourself".
Ahhhh, that's nice. Like father like daughter.
John Aravosis, a Washington gay rights activist, as well as a popular political blogger said, " She is a little late to the party. For the longest time, Mary wouldn't speak. Now she gets a million dollar book advance and suddenly she is speaking. It rings a little hollow."
Cheney stayed silent when Aravosis launched a internet campaign,, pleading with her to denounce Bush.
She shut up when Republican Senate candidate, Alan Keyes, accused her of "selfish hedonism" for living a gay lifestyle.
Now Mary wants to speak out against gay discrimination conveniently after she gets a fat check for her book, & after her daddy's campaign is all over.
Sorry Mary, you had your chance. Your still an embarrassment & your still a traitor.

Letter From Iran's President To "The Decider"

Casey over at 'Open Your Minds Eye' had a great link up to view the full letter from Iran's President Ahmadinejad to President Shrub. There are 2 parts to the letter.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Revolutionary Of The Week

Eugene Debs (1855-1926)

Eugene Debs was one of the most prominent labor organizers & political activists of his time. He was also nominated as the Socialist Party's candidate for President 5 times.

In 1874, at his mother's request, he gave up his job as a railroad fireman & went to work at a wholesale grocery store as a billing clerk. In 1875, he became a Charter member & secretary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen. He continued to work at the wholesale grocery store to help out the labor union. The same year he became the President of Occidental Literary Club of Terre Haute.

Debs made assistant editor of the National Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman's Magazine. He became interested in politics & was elected to first of 2 terms as City Clerk of Terre Haute on the Democractic ticket in 1879.

A year later Eugene Debs was named Grand Secretary of the Brotherhood of Railway Firemen, as well as Editor of the magazine.

By 1884, Debs was elected State Representative to the Indiana General Assembly as a Democrat. He organized the first industrial union in the United States, The American Railway Union, in 1885.

America's entrance into WWI, provoked a tightening of civil liberties, culminating with the passage of the Espionage and Sedition Act in June, 1917. Their totalitarian salvo read in part: " Whoever, when the US is at war, shall willfully cause or attempt to cause insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty in the military or naval forces of the US, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $ 10,000 or imprisonment of not more than 20 years, or both."

One year after the Espionage and Sedition Act was voted into law, Debs was in Canton, Ohio for a Socialist Party Convention. He was arrested for making a speech deemed "anti-war" by the Canton District Attorney. In that speech, Debs declared, " They have always taught and trained you to believe it to be your patriotic duty to go to war and to have yourselves slaughtered at their command. But in all the history of the world, you, the people, have never had a voice in declaring war, and strange as it certainly appears, no war by any nation in any age has ever been declared by the people."

"Do not worry over the charge of treason to your masters, but be concerned about the treason that involves yourselves. Be true to yourself and you cannot be a traitor to any good cause on earth."

These words led him to a 10 year prison sentence & the stripping of his US citizenship. At his sentencing, Debs famously told the judge : " Your honor, years ago, I recognized my kinship with all living beings, & I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, & I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it; while there is a criminal element, I am of it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."

While serving his sentence in the federal penitentiary, Debs was nominated for the 5th time, campaigned from his jail cell, & remarkably recieved 917,799 votes. His program included proposals for improved labour conditions, housing & welfare legislation, & an increase in the number of people who could vote in election.

President Woodrow Wilson ignored all pleas to release Debs from prison. But after serving 2 years & 8 months, President Warren G. Harding commuted his sentence on Christmas Day 1921.

Eugene Debs died in 1926, & was replaced by Norman Thomas as leader of the Socialist Party.

He is the Revolutionary Of The Week for being outspoken against war, at a time when it was illegal & punishable to do so. He went to prison because he spoke his mind in public against WWI. The current times & situation with the Iraq invasion makes me remember Eugene Debs & his contribution to free speech & the anti-war movement.

The Minutemen Cast A Swastika Shaped Shadow

The recent immigration debate has given birth to an important movement that echoes the civil rights movement of the 1960's & 1970's. At the same time, the movement has reinvigorated the politics of protest that has been so lacking in the Left these days. The eruption of this movement dosen't just come from the outrage of the estimated 11-12 million undocumented immigrants at being made scapegoats by politicians & racist vigilantes, but by the sense of their importance to the US economy.
There is no doubt that the mass protests across the country have already made an impact. The day after the April 10th protests, Republicans Dennis Hastert & Bill Frist announced that they would propose legislation that would drop provisions making undocumented workers felons. This was the odious key provision if HR4437.
But with all the positive things coming out of the immigration movement, there also comes an atmosphere of open season on immigrants supported by a bipartisan consensus on the militarization of the border, the "war on terror", & an unflinching commitment to Corporate America.
This sort of racist atmosphere has brought attention to the truly vile, Minuteman Project.
Founded by right-wing extremists Jim Gilchrist & Chris Simcox in April of 2005, these vigilantes, many of them armed, have pledged to keep watch on the US side of the US/Mexico border, to detain anyone crossing the border illegally from Mexico & to notify the Border Patrol of their location.
But all in all, their "patrols" have either been covert vigilante actions of questionable legality (they've even talked of setting up "sniper posts" along the border on their web forums-coincidental or not to a series of at least 19 "unexplained" murders of Latino immigrants by gunshot wounds in the Arizona & New Mexico deserts) or have been orchestrated media stunts aimed at conjuring up racist, anti-Latino sentiment.
Looking into the background & political affiliations of the Minuteman Project's leadership, as well as the activities of it's membership, not only shows the true colors of these pigs, but discredits their cause.
The Minuteman Project's director, 56 year old Jim Gilchrist, was once quoted as saying he envisioned a future where America would be host to "neighborhood armies of 20 to 40 going out and killing and invading one another" if immigration continued. He is also a member of the Council of Conservative Citizens & the California Coalition for Immigration Reform Both of these organizations are considered hate groups. The Council of Conservative Citizens opposes "race mixing" & has close ties to the neo-facist British National Party, while Barbara Coe, president of the Calif. Coalition for Immigration Reform refers to Mexicans as "savages" & she claims to have knowledge of a "secret plan" by the Mexican goverment to invade & annex the American southwest. Truly these people are not dealing with a full deck.
Chris Simcox joined forces with Gilchrist only after suffering a mental breakdown after the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. He used to restrict himself only to bizarre answering machine messages that demanded the caller recite the Constitution before leaving a message. He has since left his family & home in Los Angeles to embark on an anti-immigration crusade. In late 2001, his ex-wife filed for sole custody of their child, citing "sudden, violent fits of rage", instances of child abuse, & paranoid outbursts.
The idea of holding vigilante patrols along the Mexico border is not new. The KKK did it in the 1960's & called it the Ku Klux Klan Border Patrol. In the 1980's the KKK did it again & called themselves, what else? The Minutemen.
On April 2nd, the Minutemen held a protest across the street from the US Border Patrol headquarters in Naco, Arizona. Prominent among the demonstrators were 2 men who confided that they were members of the Phoenix chapter of the National Alliance the largets neo-Nazi group in America. Their website calls African Americans "negroes" & advertises for those little Nazi bitches "Prussian Blue", who sing songs entitled, " Aryan Man Awake", & "Blonde hair, blue eyes". One of these pigs sat in a lawn chair the whole time holding a sign with arrows depicting invading armies of people from Mexico--a sign identical to National Alliance billboards & pamphlets.( see above pic)
The presence of Alliance members was not a surprise, & there were more likely more than that pair. Alliance official Shaun Walker told a reporter, " We're not going to show up as a group and say,'Hi, we're the National Alliance', but we have members...that will participate."
In fact, National Alliance pamphlets were distributed in & around the predominatly hispanic community's just 2 days before the Minuteman Project got going. Their little pamphlets read, " Non-whites are turning America into a Third World slum. They come for welfare or to take our jobs. Let's send them back home now!"
The night of April 3rd brought armed vigilante Minutemen camped along Border Road in Arizona, with watch posts set up. There were about 150-200 rotating anti-immigration militants wearing cheap, plastic, hand-made "Undocumented Border Patrol Agent" badges.
At Station Two, Minutemen volunteers grilled brautwurst & fantasized about murder. Carl, a 69 year old retired Special Forces veteran said, "It should be legal to kill illegals. Just shoot 'em on sight. That's my immigration policy recommendation. You break into my country, you die."
Does he honestly think we should take his "immigration policy recommendation" seriously?? The scary thing is, yes, this racist fuck does. He was armed with a revolver chambered to fire shotgun shells. His shirt read, "American Bad Asses" in red, white, & blue.
And other vigilantes assigned to Station Two were none other than the 2 Alliance dickheads seen the day before in lawnchairs (see above pic). These men, who gave their names only as "Johnny" & " Michael", wore full-body camouflage & were armed with semi-automatic pistols.
They scouted sniper postions, taking compass readings, & drawing maps. "Michael" was caught saying, " I agree completely. You get up there with a rifle and start shooting 4 or 5 of them a week, the other 4 or 5 thousand behind them are going to think twice about crossing that line."
"Johnny", with a grilled weiner in one hand & a cheap night vision scope in the other, scanned the brush in Mexico. His bright idea was, " The thing to do would be to drop the bodies just a few hundred feet into the US & just leave them there, with lights on them at night. That sends the message 'No Trespassing', in any language."
These vigilante assholes have been playing Army in the desert, while the white supremacist & neo-Nazi websites openly recruit for the Minuteman Project. Gilchrist & Simcox have proclaimed that neo-Nazi's,etc are banned from participating & they claimed they were working with the FBI to carefully check the backgrounds of all potential Minuteman volunteers--but the FBI completely denied this.
Gilchrist & Simcox then claimed they were personally checking out each potential volunteer using on-line datbases. Even if this were true, one of Gilchrist's computers crashed April 1st, wiping out the records of at least 75 pre-registered volunteers. As a result, the recruitment turned into a free-for-all, anyone who showed up was issued a Minuteman badge & told where to go to be assigned a "watch post".
At least one member of Aryan Nations was there, & "Johnny" & "Michael" said they were 2 of 6 members of the Phoenix chapter of the National Alliance who signed up as Minutemen volunteers. They said the other 4 arrived seperately in 2-man teams to cover more ground & be less conspicuous. They said they were there to support the Minutemen & recruit new members & to learn about the "Hot spots" for border crossers--& said they intended to return to conduct National Alliance-only vigilante patrols in the fall, "when we have a little more privacy">
You can only imagine what these pigs have in mind.
While they blasted white-power rock music from the racist band Youngblood, they made references to the "14 Words", a white supremacist saying, " We must secure the existence of our race and a future for white children", all while toting a tattoo that reads," Born in the C.S.A." (Confederate States of America).
One said, " The only way I'd be down here is with a bunch of other white guys with guns. Whites are the minority in these border towns, man. They've already been taken over. This is enemy territory."
Pussy's. Probably why Gilchrist & Simcox need towering bodyguards dressed in all black, the Minuteman leaders also wear bulletproof vests. (Simcox is prohibited from carrying a firearm due to his 2004 conviction for illegally packing a pistol in a national park while hunting immigrants).
Although Arnold Swarzenegger praises the Minuteman Project saying ," I think they've done a terrific job. It just shows that it works when you go and make an effort and when you work hard. It's a doable thing. It's a shame that the private citizen has to go in there and start patrolling our borders", the actual Border Patrol officials say the Minutemen were a hinderance because they frequently called in false alarms & set off ground sensors.
When racist organizations get involved in the immigration issue by toting guns & camouflage along the US/Mexico border, hell-bent on "shooting 4 or 5 of them a week"--we have a serious problem. The Minuteman Project is nothing but Nazi vigilantes under the guise of "protecting our borders from terrorists", etc, vying for support by proclaiming they are not racists but only wish to "protect America by doing the job our goverment wont do".
This is bullshit. Don't buy into it. The evidence speaks for itself. Help stop the Minuteman Project by joining in any & all anti-Minuteman protests, writing Congress, & visiting these websites:
