Flower Vendors Violently Removed To Make Way For New WalMart

On May 3rd, in San Salvador Atenco, Mexico, flower vendors were violently removed from the streets to make way for a new Walmart. Several people were arrested and injured ( see above pics) & a 14 year old boy was killed by the police.
As the Anteco-based Frente de Pueblos en Defensa (Peoples Front in Defense of the Land) gathered to protest the forceful removal of the flower vendors, the demonstration turned violent in response to the Federal Police.
Federal police have declared a state of siege & continue to ransack the homes of community members, searching for police officers that have been detained in response to the imprisonment of protesters.
Atenco is a self-governing community that is aligned to the EZLN La Otra Campana (Other Campaign). Last year the people of Atenco successfully blocked the construction of an airport in the region, in effect becoming famous across Mexico for their protests against injustices mitigated by the Mexican goverment & corporate interests.
The people of Atenco, Mexico want only to continue selling flowers where they have always done so. This is their livelyhood, which feeds their families. It is all they have. You can see why they will defend it tooth & nail. And rightfully so.
Please remember the flower vendors of Atenco, Mexico, as well as the little 14 year old boy who lost his life at the hands of the Mexican goverment & corporate interests...

If you will be in the Southern California area on Sunday May 7th:

Demonstration at the La Puente/ City of Industry Walmart. Located at 17150 E. Gale Ave, 91745

Respond to the corporate ties with the Mexican police/goverment & Walmart's effective death sentence to local farmers & merchants!
